The mine was first discovered on January 21, 1893, by Matthew Rogers. It was initially described as “The Green Hill”. The mine would operate for just over a century, shutting down in 1996 for economic reasons. Tsumeb is considered a world-class quality producer of Adamite, Azurite, Cerussite, Dioptase, Mimetite, Tennantite, and many other species. It is home to 76 Type Locality Minerals.

A rich and beautiful cluster of large mimetite crystals! This specimen is significant for the species, and locality. Accompanied by the labels of Christopher O’Neill, Lawrence Conklin, and Mineral Kingdom of Woodmere (Zweibels), this piece dates back to the 70s, when it was sold for 300 dollars then, based on the cards!
