The pegmatites of the greater boulder batholith region have long been known by mineral collectors for their unique and diverse quartz forms. Considered by some to have more quartz varieties than any other in the world, the region has been heavily prospected by field collectors since the 1800s and still to this day new discoveries are made.
Coming from the collection of W. C. Van Laer (no labels included) is a quartz crystal coated in late stage goethite saturated quartz, also referred to as onegite. First observed in the Lake Onega region of Russia, onegite localities worldwide are few. Chris Van Laer found 2 deposits of note, one in the Delmoe lake area that produced unique specimens such as this. Obtained from and estate which contained a portion of Chris’s collection. This piece is non permanantly glued to a small acrylic base
