Quartz v. Amethyst - Revenue Flats, Madison County, Montana, USA

$55.00

Revenue Flats is a plateau crosscut by numerous quartz veins and mining prospects. Early work focused on gold mining, and continues in the present day at a small scale. However, the area became known and popular to collectors in the early 1970s upon publication by Doug Toland. Largely, the crystals at this locality are clear, but some can be amethyst as well. Japan law twins are extremely rare and seldom seen.

This is an example of amethyst overgrowing micro quartz needles, which are visible at one face of the specimen. The color is pale, as is most of the amethyst from this locality. Accompanied by the label of the late Chuck Borland.
