The Kaiwu Mine locality lies in Hezhang County of Guizhou Province, an area with a long history of mining lead, zinc, iron, and other metallic resources. Although the operation itself is not extensively documented in readily available historical sources, its importance to mineral collectors increased during the early 2010s when notable specimens entered the specimen market. Particularly distinctive material consists of siderite crystals associated with lustrous chalcopyrite, accompanied by minerals such as calcite, dolomite, pyrite, and tetrahedrite-group species. There is some uncertainty concerning the locality name, with Chinese geological information indicating that at least some of the material sold under the Kaiwu name may have originated from the nearby Caiyuanzi siderite deposit. For this reason, Kaiwu is best regarded as part of the broader mineral-producing area of Hezhang County, with its collector significance stemming primarily from the quality and character of its mineral specimens.
This specimen is a matrix of classic Kaiwu material; finds around 2010. Amazing iridescence is visible on the chalcopyrite, which displays large tetragonal crystals intergrown with classic siderite! Striking in every respect, and superb quality. A lone calcite crystal is present, as well as minor dolomite association. Displays excellent at 2 positions naturally.

The Fengjiashan Mine, also known as the Daye Mine, is a skarn-type iron-copper deposit in Daye County, Hubei Province, with a modern mining history centered on copper extraction. The mine was opened in 1966, but declining profitability led to a change in operations during the early 1980s, when the property was converted primarily to wollastonite production. Its later history became especially important to mineral collectors because mining exposed cavities and veins containing exceptionally well-crystallized specimens, including inesite, quartz, apophyllite, and other associated minerals. Fengjiashan is also the type locality for hubeite, a mineral first recognized from specimens collected at the mine in the early 2000s. The combination of its copper-mining history and later wollastonite workings has made Fengjiashan an important mineral-specimen locality within the Daye mining region.
This specimen is a matrix of classic Fengjiashan material; finds around 2010. Amazing contrast between the bone-white dolomite and calcite against the hematite included quartz! Striking in every respect, and superb quality. As with most specimens of this production, it has been formatted for aesthetics and display

The Smallcleugh Mine appears to have been established around 1770, although significant development did not begin until later in the eighteenth century. Mining eventually extended along several mineralized veins and into stratabound replacement bodies known as flats, with the Handsome Mea and Smallcleugh veins associated with some of the earliest workings, including deposits reportedly discovered in 1776. The operation expanded more substantially after about 1787 and continued developing additional veins and flats until mining ceased in the early twentieth century; a further attempt to identify remaining ore reserves was made unsuccessfully in 1963. Among the mine's better-known historical episodes was a Masonic Lodge dinner held underground in the Ballroom Flats in 1901, while recreational exploration by amateur mine explorers appears to have begun by the late 1960s. Specimens of sphalerite, galena, calcite, and ankerite are desired by collectors.
This specimen is a matrix of classic Smallcleugh sphalerite. Formerly of the Scalisi collection, the complex and isolated crystal adorning this matrix present fine quality. A must have for sphalerite or classic European collectors!

The Little Gem Mine was discovered by local gold prospectors in 1886. An article in "The Mineralogist" written in 1941 describes the travel from Butte by covered wagon, to the Nine Mile Inn, then subsequent travel to the deposit where collectors "filled their packs with amethyst" during the original find. In 1958 a Claim was filed by Oregon Geologist Jerry Gray. Gray worked the surface sporadically for 30+ years, brought in heavy equipment to build road access in the early 1990's. His goal was to create a secure working environment protected from trespassers. He tunneled about 100 feet through solid granite to reach the core, where he then put a raise. The narrow raise follows an aplite zone upwards and east; the raise opened a series of pockets that he extended into a drift, which ran parallel to the core. The present owner, Russ Hage, purchased the claim after Gray's death. Hage and working partner Mike Uphus together brought to light innumerable fine specimens. In 2013 the old drift in aplite was de-roofed and its access buried. In summer of 2022, local prospector Paul Senn took over mine management working side by side with owner Russ Hage. Since 2010 it has been worked from the surface, primarily by hand aided by small scale blasting and an excavator. Current work has exposed many pockets containing fine amethyst scepters and jacare' texture amethyst. Jacare' is a Portuguese term denoting alligator skin texture.
“The perfect miniature doesnt exis…” This is an absolutely lovely example of a singular amethyst crystal from the 2025 production. Numerous generations of amethyst pile over one another to create this beautiful end result.

This specimen is an exceptional miniature example of microcline gently coated in sericite mica, with a protruding amethyst harvested in the 2025 season. Formatted for display, numerous quartz crystals line the base of the etched feldspar grading into a prominent crystal with Brazil twinning! Skeletal features are reminiscent in the specimen, and it retains its place as a superb and uncommon example of matrix from the Little Gem.

This specimen is an exceptional miniature example of etched microcline lightly coated in sericite mica, with a protruding amethyst harvested in the 2025 season. For how small the amethyst is, the scepter displays wonderful pink color. From a geologic perspective, it is worth noting the etched zones on the microcline allowed ready nucleation sites for the later stage quartz!

This specimen is a beautiful miniature example of smoky, and amethyst intergrown to a uniquely charactered single crystal. This material only comes from one zone in the mine and carries signature traits. The presence of Brazil law twinning is easily viewed by the alternating matte/lustrous faces, which are defined best by looking down the c axis of the crystal. Clay inclusions are present in some of the chambers of the crystal.

This specimen is a beautiful miniature example of microcline with a protruding quartz capped by amethyst, harvested in the 2023 season. It exhibits excellent luster and good color. “Scepter” style habit is displayed quite well by the amethyst. The etched microcline is accented by pale green sericite mica, an alteration mineral present throughout the mine. There is even small splotches of hyalite opal present which fluoresce under 365nm UV, which is relatively uncommon for the mine!

A famous find in the 1970s by the late Bud Erhle, the signature calcite “fingers" of Carter County have long been a sought-after classic for collectors. Formed in concretion in the Pierre and bear paw shale, there are actually apparently several locales for the material. The crystal forms are often coated in a thick late-stage crust that is only removed by vinegar etching. Baryte, and selenite are known to form as well in the same concretions, which on occasion have fossils.
This is a classic miniature example of the historic and classic calcite “fingers” from Carter County. No damage is present to the crystal. This piece has been treated at some point with vinegar to remove the crusts. Non permanently mounted to acrylic.

The PC Mine has minimal history beyond is specimen production, which first dates to 1983. At that time, the privately owned land was partly lease from Forest Klies by W. C. Van Laer, until 1987. In 1988, Pete Knudsen, Bryant Harris, and Elvis “Buzz” Gray acquired the mining lease and Knudsen would later assume full ownership in 1990. By 2005 any workable breccia was considered mined out. The deposit sits at river level on a private land cabin site. The mine was most well known for its production of Japan Law twin crystals, and tourmaline included quartz crystals. In addition, excellent gem quality sphalerite was also present, with galena, anhydrite and pyrite as well.
This specimen classic quartz “starburst” with just the right amount of tourmaline! The aesthetics speak for itself. Excellent crystal, this is a great representative piece of a now closed, and classic Montana locale!

Mineral specimens from the Pack Rat Mine in Montana became known primarily through small-scale collecting rather than large commercial production. Early miners occasionally saved attractive pieces of crystallized minerals encountered while following the ore veins, and some of these specimens later entered private collections. Interest from mineral collectors increased during the mid-twentieth century as reports of well-formed crystals and unusual mineral associations circulated among hobbyists and dealers. Because the workings were relatively small, most specimens recovered from the mine were limited in number and often obtained directly from underground pockets or from material on nearby dumps. A portion of the better examples gradually found their way into mineral shows, museum collections, and the hands of regional collectors. Today, specimens attributed to the Pack Rat Mine are considered relatively uncommon and are usually associated with material recovered during earlier periods of mining and collecting. While the mine is actively held as claim, no known current specimen production exists.
This specimen is a classic cluster of baryte crystals. Rich honey brown color.

Crystal mining at the Huanuni Mine in Oruro, Bolivia, is principally a by-product of the district’s exceptionally productive tin industry rather than a separate gemstone-mining enterprise. Huanuni is regarded as one of the world’s richest cassiterite deposits, and the oxidation and leaching of sulfide ores produced thick zones of cassiterite-bearing breccia that have yielded well-formed, lustrous crystals. The mine is also mineralogically notable for an extensive suite of sulfides, sulfosalts, phosphates, carbonates, and secondary minerals, including cassiterite, stannite, franckeite, cylindrite, siderite, ludlamite, vivianite, and fluorite.
This specimen is a matrix of classic Bolivia. A nice sized blueish vivianite spray adorns a glittering matrix with rainbow iridescent pyrite and micro siderite crystals. Great aesthetics and form.

Crystal collecting at Hermannstein, near Wetzlar in Hesse, is closely associated with the historic workings and quarries of Simberg, where extraction of limestone and manganese ores exposed mineralized cavities and alteration zones. The former Malapertus Mine, an ancient manganese operation abandoned in 1931, produced manganite, pyrolusite, and psilomelane, while the adjoining limestone quarry has yielded calcite, dolomite, quartz, nontronite, and manganese oxides. Although Hermannstein was not primarily a commercial source of gemstones, quarrying and mining provided opportunities for recovery of crystallized material, particularly quartz and calcite, from fractures and cavities within the limestone.
This specimen is a bed of lustrous calcite crystals with a very unique character in texture. Towards the terminations, the overgrowths become lustrous and complex. From the JHoppner Collection, dated April 1984.

Rudny, in Kazakhstan’s Kostanay Region, is a major iron-mining center whose extensive deposits have also produced a diverse assemblage of collectible mineral crystals. The principal localities, particularly the Sokolovskoe Iron Mine and Sarbai Deposit, have yielded quartz—including amethyst, chalcedony, and agate—as well as calcite, siderite, fluorite, and a range of zeolites and related silicates. Rather than representing a conventional gemstone-mining industry, crystal production at Rudny has largely resulted from the excavation of iron and polymetallic ores, with well-developed crystals recovered from cavities, veins, and altered zones exposed during mining. The district is particularly significant to mineral collectors for its amethyst, zeolite-group minerals, and unusual silver-bearing mineral assemblages from Sarbai, making specimens from Rudny an important by-product of Kazakhstan’s long-established metallurgical mining industry.
This specimen is a bed of lustrous calcite crystals! A gentle coloring of yellow accents the gleaming calcites. Perfect example! Accompanied by an old Rocksmith’s label.

In the Bulgarian mining context, the term “mine” is primarily an exploration-administrative designation and does not necessarily coincide with the name or boundaries of a specific ore deposit. The Septemvri Mine, for instance, comprises multiple deposits—Sharenka, Baram, Mogilata, Osikovo, and Pechinsko. It is important to note that the mine underwent a name change over time. From the start of exploration in 1953 until 1989, it was known as the Deveti Septemvri Mine (“9th of September Mine” in English). Since 1989, it has been referred to as the Septemvri Mine (“September Mine” in English).

Mining at the Santa Eulalia Mining District began in 1703 and has continued intermittently for more than three centuries, making it one of Mexico’s historically important silver and base-metal districts. The principal ores occur as carbonate-replacement bodies hosted by limestone and dolomite, with the district’s West and East Camps containing extensive lead-silver-zinc mineralization in mantos, chimneys, and skarn-related deposits. Over its long history, Santa Eulalia has produced more than half a billion troy ounces of silver along with several million tonnes of lead and zinc, establishing the district as a major contributor to Mexico’s mining industry. Mining has also exposed numerous oxidized cavities and mineralized openings that have yielded exceptional specimens, including selenite, fluorite, rhodochrosite, adamite, and other secondary minerals prized by collectors.

Mining at Naica, Chihuahua, Mexico, began in the late eighteenth century and developed primarily around its lead, zinc, silver, and other metallic ores rather than selenite. During the expansion of underground workings in the early twentieth century, miners encountered caves containing large, transparent selenite crystals, including the famous Cave of Swords discovered in 1910. Continued mine development and dewatering led to the discovery of the Cave of Crystals in 2000, where gypsum crystals exceeding 11 meters in length represent some of the largest known natural crystals on Earth. Although these spectacular crystals were exposed through mining, they were not the primary object of extraction, and many Naica selenite specimens available to collectors originated from smaller cavities elsewhere in the mine rather than from the famous Cave of Crystals.
This specimen is a beautiful example of selenite with excellent isolation on matrix.

From the breccias and pods in the batholith north central Sonora Mexico come an instantly recognizable and classic find of tourmaline. Initially, these fibrous sprays were labels by collectors and dealers alike as schorl, when later testing showed all samples analyzed to be thoroughly dravite! The variance atomically between the two is minute, but proving yet again visual alone is sometimes not enough, especially with group minerals like tourmaline. These “velvet” like sprays were a notable find that first emerged around 2000, with the precise location unknown. The miner died in 2003 carrying the information with them.
Pictured here is a remarkably aesthetic example of “velvet” dravite sprays isolated on a bed of quartz crystals. Several sprays adorn the quartz coated matrix, giving great contrast and depth visually to the specimen. Displays fantastic.

The Holcim Quarry in Lockport, New York, is a well-known collecting site developed in Silurian-aged dolostone of the Niagara Escarpment. It has produced a wide range of mineral specimens, most notably well-formed dolomite crystals along with calcite, fluorite, sphalerite, and occasional galena. Many of these minerals occur lining vugs and fractures, often showing sharp crystal form and attractive color contrasts. Access has been limited in recent years, but material from the quarry remains widely represented in both private and museum collections.
This specimen is a classic miniature example of dolostone matrix hosting small yellow sphalerite crystals. the crystals are extremely fluorescent orange under long wave(365nm) light. Berg Aukas is a historic mineral deposit located in northern Namibia, about 40 km south of the town of Grootfontein. Geologically, the deposit is a hydrothermal lead-zinc-vanadium ore body hosted in dolostone of the Neoproterozoic Otavi Group. Mineralization formed when metal-rich fluids moved through fractures and dissolution cavities in the carbonate rocks, depositing sulfide minerals such as galena and sphalerite along with unusual secondary minerals. The mine is especially famous for producing rare vanadium minerals, including the bright red lead vanadate descloizite and other colorful oxidation-zone species that formed when the ore was exposed to weathering.
Mining at Berg Aukas began in 1913 and expanded significantly during the mid-1900s, eventually becoming one of the world’s most important sources of vanadium-bearing minerals. Although commercial mining ceased in 1978, Berg Aukas remains well known among geologists and mineral collectors for its exceptional mineral diversity and specimen quality.
This specimen is a cluster of large blocky descloizite crystals clustered together across the matrix. Carrying with it a Scott Rosenthal label, which dates to modern times. Largely, the display area is in good condition with excellent luster.

The many mines of Butte amount to over 11,000 miles of workings below the city. Without specific provenance, it’s nearly impossible to associate specimens with specific mines. The “richest hill on earth” first originated as a mining camp for gold but would later rapidly develop into one of the world’s most historic sulfide deposits. Rich veins of covellite, chalcocite, enargite, and other minerals as thick as 100 feet were stoped out, supplying the world with a large portion of its industrial copper.
This is a fairly simple, yet exceedingly rare example of fluorite from Butte. Seldom found available to collectors, Butte fluorite is one of the elusive species from the supergene polymetallic deposit that was observed in very minute quantities at best. Complex stepping is present across most faces, with strong fluorescence in ultraviolet light. I note 5 distinct crystal nucleation sites, intergrown together to almost entirely coat the matrix, of which small quartz and chalcopyrite can be seen.

History of the Crazy Sphinx is spotty, but specimens have been dated back to the early 30s in some collections. The deposit is a very small, mineralized zone in a skarn zone related to the broader boulder batholith. The mine is still worked for specimens in the present day, the main prizes being cobalt blue colored spinel and white grossular garnets. Minor amounts of clinozoisite, schorl, and clintonite are also present. The deposit is extremely difficult to mine, and virtually all spinel occur encased entirely in garnet or vesuvianite. It is extremely rare to see otherwise. Only a handful of localities worldiwde produce blue spinel, with this being the best USA locale!
This specimen features a deep blue colored spinel group, which has been revealed through careful matrix prep. While the crystals are small, they have superb color and are nicely terminated for the locale. Quite a nice example of a Montana classic.

Initially discovered in 1887, the Summit Mine lies in the Radersburg district in the southern part of Broadwater County. The finest hemimorphite in the USA come from this locality, as well as numerous other interesting and uncommon minerals. The mine has been inactive for some time and lies on private property.
This is a classic example of Mottramite on descloizite matrix. Only occuring at depth in one area of the mine, this material is quite rare indeed. Accompanied by the label of Chris Tucker. Chris is undoubtedly the collector of the specimen, as he wrote several articles on the mine as well as is known to have collected there.

This is a fairly simple, yet elegant example of pyrite with a light tarnish to the surface. The tarnish gives a blue color, which accents the gold of the pyrite quite uniquely. From the deep Butte mines, this piece represents rich history in the mining world.

The Black Pine Mine was an industrial polymetallic deposit hosted in Missoula quartzite and spokane shale. The mine had an operational history older than Montana’s statehood, first discovered in 1882, with a rocky ownership to follow. It changed hands and operations several times before its final shutdown in 2018. Professional specimen collecting only occurred during a short window in the 80s, under contract agreement with Inspiration Copper and Duane Johnson. The site now lies on private state land and is an active DEQ cleanup site.
Complex mineral assemblages were present in the Black Pine. Heavily oxidized veins hosted a vast array of copper, zinc, and iron minerals, among others. Primary metallics were tetrahedrite, pyrite, hubnerite, sphalerite, and galena. Through oxidation, some of the most unique combinations and examples in the world were produced, including 3 type locality species and the largest examples of veszelyite in the world.
This is a small but superb example of iron dominant oxides coating a plate of quartz crystals. Micro crystals of beudantite are present with jarosite, hematite, and heavy goethite. A lesser seen example, as the copper oxides tend to dominate the environment.

This specimen classic doubly terminated quartz with just the right amount of tourmaline! The aesthetics speak for itself. Some abrasion is present, but is largely accepted from the locale due to the nature of the deposit. Excellent crystal, this is a great representative piece of a now closed, and classic Montana locale!

Agate deposits in the Dryhead area of the Pryor Mountains in Big Horn County, Montana, became known to collectors in the mid-20th century when prospectors followed scattered agate nodules found on the surface back to their source layers. These nodules, later called Dryhead agates, formed within sedimentary rocks and often contain colorful banding, although only a small portion produce gem-quality material. Beginning in the 1950s, rockhounds and small claim holders conducted limited mining, typically removing nodules by hand or with light equipment. Interest from collectors grew through the 1960s and 1970s, and for a period the site operated as a fee-dig area where visitors could search for agates themselves. As the more accessible material became scarce and the location proved difficult to work economically, organized mining activity declined during the 1980s and 1990s. Today, most Dryhead agates circulating among collectors were recovered during those earlier decades of exploration and small-scale mining, however mining operations have been recently reopened at a small scale!
This specimen is a classic example of face-polished Dryhead agate with intense orange banding. Not automatically polished, the gently domed edges reveal this piece to be handwork, a show of more love and attention. This nodule has some excess matrix, which could be worked further to reveal more pattern! This specimen comes from 2025 production. UV is shortwave reaction (254nm)

This specimen is a beautiful miniature example of etched microcline with amorphous amethyst, harvested in the 2025 season. The amethyst is capping parent smoky quartz which is synonymous with the matrix. late-stage iron oxide include a final stage of silica creating a unique calico appearance to the quartz. This trait is only present in one area of the mine. The etched micocline is accented by pale green glittery sericite mica, an alteration mineral present throughout the mine.

The Santa Eulalia District in Chihuahua, Mexico is widely known among collectors for its abundant and varied mineral specimens, particularly from carbonate replacement deposits hosted in limestone. Over decades of mining, the area produced fine examples of fluorite, calcite, galena, sphalerite, and aragonite, often noted for their clarity, color, and well-formed crystal habits. Even as large-scale mining declined, older material from Santa Eulalia continues to circulate, maintaining the district’s reputation as a classic source of attractive cabinet specimens.
Perched atop delicate hemimorphite blades sits uniquely peach-yellow colored mimetite. Often mislabeled as Ojuela Mine, mimetite specimens from the Santa Eulalia district have remarkable variety. The glittery aesthetic of this specmin give it an other wordly feel. A Perfect acquisition for any collection.

Partridge Island in Canada has a history shaped by both maritime use and small-scale mineral interest rather than large, sustained mining. Early attention to the island’s rocks came from local observers and visiting geologists who noted mineral occurrences along its exposed coastal outcrops. These findings led to limited collecting and informal extraction, but no major commercial development took hold due to the island’s size and logistical constraints. Over time, the locality became better known among collectors for its specimens than for any industrial output.
Analcime from Canada seems to be some of the best in the world, with localities like Partridge Island producing such spectacular crystals. This section of matrix hosts several great analcime crystals with different character each. The largest being matte, but of good size. The perched alone crystal of excellent lustre and translucency. The Burlington Mine in Butte, Montana, developed during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries as part of the rapid expansion that followed the region’s early copper discoveries. It was one of many properties absorbed into the industrial network controlled by the Anaconda Copper Mining Company, which drove large-scale underground development across the district. Workings at the Burlington followed steep, mineralized veins at depth, contributing to Butte’s reputation as a major source of copper and associated metals. Over time, operations shifted and declined as richer ores were depleted and mining methods changed throughout the district. By the mid-twentieth century the mine had ceased activity, but it remains part of the broader historical framework of the Butte mining district.
This specimen features a vug of pale pink yet gemmy rhodochrosite crystals with a lesser amount of milky quartz points in the periphery. The specimen has been saw formatted, as many of the specimens from this site are just small vugs in otherwise large rock mass. The formatting does allow two excellent display angles however. Rhodochrosite from Butte is difficult to come by as good crystals, this is a great opportunity at an affordable piece!

The Jackson Crossroads Amethyst Mine in Wilkes County, Georgia, is widely regarded as one of the premier amethyst-producing localities in the United States, known for its distinctive and highly collectible quartz crystals. The deposit formed through hydrothermal processes within altered granitic or volcanic host rock, where mineral-rich fluids created pockets lined with crystals in clay-filled cavities. Amethyst specimens from the site are especially noted for their sharp crystal form, glassy luster, and striking color zoning, often showing deep purple tips over lighter or colorless interiors. Material from the early 2000s brought the locality international attention, with many pieces displaying gem-quality transparency and complex growth features. Today, although access has varied over time, specimens from Jackson Crossroads remain highly sought after by collectors for their combination of color, clarity, and aesthetic appeal.
This is a richly colored single crystal of amethyst displaying zoning in both terminations. Detatched from matrix, this crystal stands alone proudly. Non-permanently affixed to white 3D printed base. Ex Persson Rare Minerals.

This specimen is a classic plate of baryte, crystals showing on all sides of the specimen. A late-stage crust encases some of the crystals but overall, visual appeal is great. Rich honey brown color. Accompanied by a handwritten label by Chuck Borland, and the label of Tom and Judy Tucker.

This specimen is a plate of fairly large descloizite crystals clustered together across the matrix. Carrying with it a Colorado Geologic Industries label, which dates between the 1960s and 1980s when the company was actively dealing. The specimen does have some broken crystals unfortunately. Largely, the display area is in good condition, however.

Geologically, the ore occurs within the Hotazel Formation of the Griqualand West Sequence, part of the Paleoproterozoic Transvaal Supergroup, where stratiform manganese deposits formed in ancient marine sediments about two billion years ago. The ore body consists of gently dipping, strata-bound manganese layers that have been strongly faulted and hydrothermally altered, producing complex mineral assemblages and zones of high-grade ore. Rhodochrosite, Manganite, Ettringite, and several other rare minerals occur in cavities and fractures within the ore, making the mine famous among mineral collectors.
The broader N’Chwaning deposit was discovered during exploration of the Kalahari manganese field in the mid-20th century, and the N’Chwaning II shaft began production in 1981 as an underground manganese mine operated by Assmang. Today, the mine remains an important producer of manganese ore and is internationally renowned for yielding some of the finest mineral specimens from the Kalahari Manganese Field.
This specimen features a modest sized plate of manganese matrix with rich coverage of olmiite accented by bulfonteinite. Of course, the olmiite fluoresces quite nicely, in a deep red under long wave light. A classic example of not only a highly regarded locale, but uncommon species worldwide.

The Zapot Mine, also known as the Zapot pegmatite, is located in the Gillis Range of Mineral County, Nevada, about 25 km northeast of Hawthorne. Geologically, the deposit occurs within Jurassic–Cretaceous plutonic rocks, where pegmatite bodies intruded into reddish-gray quartz monzonite and formed cavities containing minerals such as amazonite, smoky quartz, and topaz. The original discovery of minerals in the area is uncertain, but modern exploration began when prospector D. J. Gray rediscovered the site in the early 1980s and staked the Sun No. 5 claim. In 1986 the claim was purchased by Harvey Gordon, who renamed it the Zapot Pegmatite and developed it primarily for mineral specimens and gemstones, making it the only known amazonite-topaz mining operation in Nevada. The pegmatite is still mined to this day!
This specimen is a textbook example of granite druse material. Smoky quartz erupts from a formatted matrix of albite. minor inclusions of schorl are also present. The formatting allows for great display without aid.

Cooper & Stanley (1991):
"Of little commercial significance, this mine is one of the most famous mineral localities in the world. Lead minerals consisting predominantly of phosphate-bearing mimetite (campylite) in a gangue of quartz, barite and manganese oxides were deposited in an east-west vein. Other minerals occur rarely, the most well-known being plumbogummite.
Although mimetite specimens from Dry Gill are recorded from at least 1830 there is no record of commercial ore mining here until a lease was taken by Hugh Lee Pattinson, inventor of a cupellation process for the desilvering of lead. Pattinson began work in 1846, driving an adit on the vein where it crosses Dry Gill beck near the foot of the gill. He raised a few hundred tons of "colored lead ore" but gave up the work in the 1850's. The property was subsequently tried by various operators, none of whom had much success. The mine was last worked in 1869.
The finest mimetite specimens were collected in the 19th century but, although increasingly hard to find, some fine material has been obtained since, particularly in the 1970's. However, the mine is notoriously unstable, cold and wet, and there have been a number of accidents involving collectors. No one has been critically injured but the incidents have highlighted the dangers of the old workings in the Caldbeck Fells."
This specimen features a quartz matrix decorated in matte yellow barrel shaped mimetite crystals. From the collection of Barrie Bieler.

The La Viesca Mine in the La Collada mining area near Huergo, Siero in Asturias, Spain is a historically significant fluorite (fluorspar) mine first developed in the early 20th century. Originally worked by local companies under rights held by Felgueroso Hermanos and later by Fluoruros S.A., the mine produced industrial-grade fluorite and notable collector-quality crystals through much of the 20th century, gaining renown among mineral enthusiasts worldwide. After a period of inactivity following its closure in the 1980s, mining resumed in 2004 under Preparación Minera del Norte (Preminor S.L.) via an inclined ramp to access deeper fluorite veins. The site has yielded exceptional specimens, including world-class pockets such as the “Geoda de Las Monjas” discovered in 2010, prized for their size and clarity.
This example of fluorite and quartz present a simple yet elegant aesthetic form one of Spain’s most famous fluorite locales. Gently colored glassy fluorites cluster atop a quartz druse which protrudes with subtlety. Overall, the specimen is in good condition, with only a couple crystals displaying damage but nothing visually striking.

For over a century the Herja Mine has been operated for antimony, lead, and zinc commodities. It has produced some of the world’s finest crystalline stibnite examples and is type locality to the mineral fizelyite.
This specimen is a unique genesis of galena perimorphing pyrite, which pseudomorphed pyrrhotite. accents of late-stage dolomite and sphalerite are also present. Close examination of matrix edge reveals the story of genesis. This old time specimen displays wonderfully, and meets the criteria for many collection type.
Accompanied by the detailed label of Jimmie Duffoe, and the collection label of Charles M. Noll.

Undoubtedly this specimen has forgone professional prep, as iron staining is still evident; this present potential for some. Displays fantastic.

The N’tola Mine is an important historic copper locality located within the highly mineralized Mindouli District of the Republic of the Congo, a region known for extensive copper, lead, and zinc deposits hosted within ancient carbonate formations. Mining throughout the greater Mindouli area began during the era of French colonial administration, with exploration and extraction increasing considerably from the late 1940s through the 1960s as numerous small deposits along the limestone ridge near Mindouli were developed. The N’tola workings were among these operations and became recognized for producing oxidized copper ores, particularly attracting attention from mineral collectors for exceptional dioptase specimens. In addition to dioptase, the locality has also yielded notable occurrences of dolomite, duftite, and mimetite, contributing to its reputation as a significant mineral specimen source.
Featured here is a specimen of dioptase with dolomite and mimetite. Richly colored dioptase crystals preferentially coat the matrix with slight manganese oxides. Small yellow mimetite crystals scatter throughout the dolomite druze. The overall aesthetics are great for this small cabinet specimen. Some damage is present among the dioptase, as commonly is for larger tsumeb material. Crudely formatted on the back, likely from mining. The specimen comes affixed to an acrylic base by hot glue.
